Chargers Blank Saint Anselm, 3-0

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team notched its second win of the year with a 3-0 triumph against Northeast-10 foe Saint Anselm on Saturday afternoon on Kayo Field.  Louis Greenway Tambini (Nottingham, England/Trinity School), Will Richard (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) and Ryan Fleming (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) each scored for the Chargers, while Emil Thomsen (Værløse, Denmark/Birkerød Gymnasium) and Andres Torres (Medellín, Colombia/Norwalk (Conn.) / Adelphi University) picked up assists.

It was the Chargers' first Northeast-10 victory, improving to 2-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the NE-10 while Saint Anselm fell to 1-5-0 and 0-4-0 in conference.

In goal, Marc Scelsa (Islip, N.Y./Islip) faced five shots with as many saves to post the second win and second clean sheet of his career. Saint Anselm goalie Stephen McLeod also had five saves on the day.

Tambini opened the scoring for New Haven in the 12th minute, netting his third goal of the fall to stake the Blue and Gold to a 1-0 lead.. Just six minutes later, Richard doubled the advantage, scoring his first goal of the season on the assist from Thomsen. The helper was the first point of 2014 for the Charger midfielder.

Fleming put in his first goal as a Charger just before in the intermission, rounding out the scoring at 3-0 on an assist from Torres in the 43rd minute. Torres, who leads the Blue and Gold with four goals this fall, adds his first dime of the year to increase his point total to nine.

New Haven continues its Northeast-10 schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at American International. The Blue and Gold then head north to Saint Michael's next Saturday, Oct. 4 before returning to Kayo Field to host Le Moyne on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
