SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -
Sal DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington / Central Connecticut State University) scored a pair of goals for the University of New Haven men's soccer team, but the Chargers fell to host American International 3-2 in the 94th minute of overtime Tuesday night. AIC's Juan Correa scored an unassisted goal at 93:58 to lead the Yellow Jackets to the come-from-behind victory.
With the loss, New Haven falls to 2-6-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. American International improves to 6-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in NE-10 action.
DiTommaso's pair of scores led the Chargers out to a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute. His second goal of the night was assisted by
Emil Thomsen (Værløse, Denmark/Birkerød Gymnasium). The Chargers also saw shots from Thomsen,
Andres Torres (MedellÃn, Colombia/Norwalk (Conn.) / Adelphi University),
Bobby Cruz (Lake Grove, N.Y./Centereach),
Rob Poirier (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) and
JP DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington).

Marc Scelsa (Islip, N.Y./Islip) tallied seven saves and faced 23 shots in nearly 94 minutes.
AIC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute when Ed Sharman netted his fourth goal of the season. Sal DiTommaso evened the score at 1-1 before halftime with his first goal of the evening. He beat the defender at the top of the box and snuck a shot by the AIC goalkeeper in the 24th minute. Neither team mounted more than one attempt for the remainder of the half and the game was knotted at 1-1 after 45 minutes of play.
Sal DiTommaso put the Chargers ahead in the 65th minute with a shot to the far post and receiving a pass from Thomsen. With his first two goals of the season, DiTommaso put the Blue and Gold ahead with just over 25 minutes left.
After holding off the Yellow Jackets surge for over 10 minutes, AIC fold the equalizer in the 78th minute when Sharman scored his second of the evening to even the match at 2-2.
Scelsa made two saves in the final minutes as the Yellow Jackets continued to fired shots on net. AIC's last attempt of the second half came 17 seconds before the horn concluded regulation.
After a pair of UNH shots were unsuccessful in the first two minutes of extra time, the Yellow Jackets earned a pair of shots nearly one minute apart. The second got by Scelsa and AIC went on for the sudden-victory in overtime.
New Haven returns to the pitch on Saturday, Oct. 4 when it travels to Saint Michael's for another NE-10 clash in Colchester, Vermont. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
