BOX SCORENEW HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4 loss Sunday afternoon to Bentley at the Yale Outdoor Tennis Center. The Chargers led 2-1 after doubles, but the Falcons rebounded with four singles victories to claim the duel.
With the loss, New Haven falls to 3-5 overall and in the Northeast-10 Conference. Bentley improves to 3-3 after the victory.
UNH won No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to jump out to an early lead in the matchup.
Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ) and
Alexandra Sharshakov (Reisterstown, Md./Garrison Forest) earned an 8-4 win on No. 1, while
Angelica Pecci (Watertown, Conn./Holy Cross) teamed with
Sarah Burzin (Ivoryton, Conn./Valley Regional) for an 8-4 win in No. 3. Conley and Sharshakov improved to 5-3 on the season with the victory.
Sharshakov continued her impressive season with a three-set victory in No. 1 singles over Ludmila Yamus. She won a second-set tiebreaker and then took the third set 10-4. Conley earned a straight-set victory in No. 3 to complete the sweet on the day as well. She evened her record at 4-4 on the season.
New Haven returns to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 30 when Adelphi travels to Woodbrigde for another NE-10 match at Amity Regional High School. The opening serve it set for 3:30 p.m.
