Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Strong Second Half Propels Chargers to Fourth Straight Win

RINDGE, N.H. – Jonny Ocasio (Queens, N.Y./Charlotte (Fla.) / Hillsborough Community College) and Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) each scored a game-high 19 points as the University of New Haven men's basketball team used a strong second half to defeat the Franklin Pierce Ravens 69-62 in a Northeast-10 Conference game Saturday afternoon.

With its fourth straight win, New Haven improves to 11-5 and is 6-4 in the NE-10. The Ravens fall to 10-6 overall and are 5-4 in conference play.

Ocasio and Mosley led four players in double figures for the Chargers. Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while blocking three shots. Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) hit a trio of three-pointers on his way to netting 10 for the game. Samir McDaniels (Roxbury, Mass./New Mission) contributed to the effort with eight rebounds.

A low-scoring first half played out tightly with neither team holding more than a six-point lead and saw Franklin Pierce take a 27-24 lead into the locker room.

New Haven opened the second half well as back-to-back three-pointers by Hunt put UNH up by three. After a quick 5-0 Franklin Pierce spurt moved the Ravens on top 32-30, the Chargers went on a 12-2 run to open up a 42-34 lead with 14:23 remaining in the half. A big part of the momentum shift was a four-point play when Hunt hit a three at the 15:45 mark and was fouled. Hunt hit his free throw to help New Haven take command in the half. The Chargers would eventually swell the lead to as many as 14 on a layup by Mosley with 7:18 remaining before cementing the final score.

In the second half, New Haven caught fire from beyond the arc, hitting on 6-of-10 three-point attempts.

The Chargers continue their road swing when New Haven travels to Bentley on Wednesday, January 21 for a Northeast-10 Conference tilt at 7:30 p.m.
