Stonehill Tops Men's Basketball, 63-53

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference game 63-53 to Stonehill Saturday afternoon at Charger Gymnasium. Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) scored a team-high 19 points, while Eric Anderson (Newark, N.J./Newark Tech) grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

With the loss, the Chargers fall to 11-7 overall and 6-6 in the NE-10. The Skyhawks improve to 12-6 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

Anderson added nine points, four assists and two blocks. Off the bench, Jonny Ocasio (Queens, N.Y./Charlotte (Fla.) / Hillsborough Community College) scored 10 points, including eight from the free throw line. Cyrus James (Manchester, Conn./Howell Cheney Tech) finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Chargers shot 31 percent from the floor, 27.3 percent from long range and 57.9 percent from the charity stripe.

Stonehill was led by sophomore forward Ryan Logan who scored a game-high 22 points with seven rebounds. Carter Smith added 12 points and Jack Cole finished with 10 boards.

Throughout nearly the first 14 minutes of the opening half, the Chargers and Skyhawks exchanged rallies. A Stonehill jumper at 6:27 tied the game at 17-17, the sixth tie of the stanza. An 11-2 run during a 3:30 stretch gave the Skyhawks control of the game with a 28-19 lead at the 2:25 mark. After a small push to end the first half, the Chargers trailed 31-25 at the break.

In the first four minutes of the second half, New Haven chipped away at the Stonehill lead. A Mosley three-pointer with 16:02 left, brought the Chargers within one, 38-37. Ocasio and Mosley led the Chargers as the lead still remained close during a majority of the second half. With 4:50 on the clock, Ocasio sunk a pair of free throws and tied the game at 51-51. The Skyhawks finished the game with a 12-0 run before Ocasio scored another two free throws with eight seconds left.

New Haven returns to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 27 when it hosts Southern New Hampshire in another Northeast-10 Conference cross-divisional game at Charger Gymnasium. The men are set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
