Brookville, N.Y. – The University of New Haven volleyball team dropped a three set (18-25, 17-25, 19-25) decision to non-conference foe LIU Post on Thursday night. Leading the Chargers was freshman setter Kristine Rio who finished with six kills, 16 assists and 5 digs, while hitting .267 overall.
With the loss, New Haven falls to 8-8 overall, while the Pioneers improve to 11-4 overall.
Leading the Chargers hitting efforts overall was Kristen Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) who finished with seven kills followed by Rios' six which was tied with Meagan Anderson (Palm Springs, Calif./Palm Springs) for second most on the squad. As a team, the Chargers hit .159 with 30 kills and 13 errors in 107 total attempts. Among the leading hitters, Anderson led the way with a .500 hitting average, finishing without an error in 12 total attacks.
Defensively, the Chargers were led by Lee and Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) who finished with 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Kennelly's 10 digs were added to five total kills and 12 assists. Also among the defensive leaders was freshman Brianna Mirmina (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) who finished with nine digs, while Anderson added six.
New Haven returns to Charger Gym for their next match, the first at home since a five-set victory over Bridgeport on September 16. Next up on the Chargers docket will be a Northeast-10 conference match-up against Assumption on Tuesday, October 6. First serve against the Greyhounds is scheduled for 7 p.m.
