WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
Evans Kussi (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) scored his first collegiate goal, but the University of New Haven men's soccer team fell to the nationally ranked No. 3 Southern New Hampshire Penmen 2-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, SNHU remains undefeated at 10-0 on the season and is 8-0 in the NE-10. The Chargers are now 4-7 overall with a 1-6 conference record.
Trailing 2-0 in the waning minutes,
Matt Dillon (Seaside Park, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) served a ball from 30 yards out on the left side. Nick Zucco came out of his net to try to clear the ball, but Kussi got to it first and tucked it into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal to make it 2-1.
New Haven fell behind early as Sofiane Tergou netted his fourth goal of the season in the fourth minute. The game stayed 1-0 into halftime, thanks in large part to
Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) who made 10 first have saves. The Penmen would add a goal early in the second half to increase the lead to 2-0.
For the match, Sasso ended with 12 saves.
New Haven continues its three game homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m. when it hosts Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Kayo Field.
