NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. –
Marisa Garcia (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) scored her Northeast-10 Conference leading 10th goal of the season in the first half, but the University of New Haven women's soccer team was upended 2-1 by the Merrimack Warriors in an NE-10 contest on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Merrimack is now 7-2-3 overall with a 4-2-2 mark in the NE-10. The Chargers fall to 7-4-1 with a 4-4-1 record in conference play.
New Haven opened the scoring in the 12th minute as off a cross from
Kelly Quigley (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury Memorial), Garcia one-timed the ball past the keeper for her 10th goal of the season. It is the first time since 2013 that a Charger has reached double figures in goals when
Amber Simms (Southport, England/Southport) and Monica Yanez both accomplished the feat.
The game remained 1-0 until the 54th minute when Janna Savi scored on a penalty kick to tie the match. The Warriors went ahead on a Sarah Boucher goal in the 65th minute.
For the match, New Haven held a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
The Chargers are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 14, when they return to Kayo Field to take on Stonehill in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 4:00 p.m.
