Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) made a season-high 15 saves, but the University of New Haven men's soccer team was upended by the American International Yellow Jackets 1-0 on Saturday night in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
With the win, AIC is now 4-5-4 overall with a 2-3-4 record in the NE-10. New Haven falls to 4-9-0 and is 1-8-0 in conference play.
Following a scoreless first half, the two teams battled without a goal for the first 30-plus minutes of the second stanza. In the 80th minute, off a long feed from the back line, Ed Sharman crossed the ball into Alec Cerquiera, who was able to touch the ball into the back of the net for the lone goal of the contest.
New Haven had a pair of chances late, but a shot by
Oscar Johannesson (Hässleholm, Sweden/Hässleholms Tekniska Skola) was saved in the 89th minute and with 27 seconds left, a header by
Evans Kussi (Worcester, Mass./Doherty Memorial) went just wide of the net.
The Chargers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 Conference match beginning at 3:00 p.m.
