RINDGE, N.H. –
Ben Lamb (Keighley, England/Oakbank) scored his first two goals in a Chargers uniform as the University of New Haven men's soccer team earned its first Northeast-10 Conference victory of the season with a 2-0 win against the Franklin Pierce Ravens on Saturday night.
With the victory, New Haven is now 4-6 on the season with a 1-5 record in NE-10 play. The Ravens are 3-5-1 overall and have a 1-4-1 mark in conference play.
Â
Both of Lambs goals came off set pieces in the first half. In the sixth minute off a free kick from
Mawasi Charles (Barataria, Trinidad/St. Anthony's College), Lamb camped out at the far post and headed the ball into the right side of the net off the mixer to put the Chargers up 1-0.
Â
It was a similar situation in the 43rd minute as Lamb once again headed the ball into the back of the net on the far post off a free kick from
Matt Dillon (Seaside Park, N.J./Monsignor Donovan), opening up a 2-0 advantage.
Â
The Ravens weren't without their chances, but
Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) was up to the challenge in net, making nine saves to earn the clean sheet.
Â
New Haven now has a week off before returning to action on Saturday, Oct. 10, hosting nationally ranked No. 4 Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 p.m. at Kayo Field.
