NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The New Haven women's soccer team scored once in each half and held off a late Southern Connecticut State rally as the Chargers downed the Owls 2-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Saturday night.

With the win, New Haven is now 7-2-1 with a 4-2-1 record in the NE-10. Southern Connecticut State falls to 3-5 with a 3-3 mark in conference.

The Chargers scored the first goal of the match late in the opening half as off a feed across the box from
Marisa Garcia (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon),
Shannon Enright (Ashford, Conn./E.O. Smith) drilled a ball that hit the underside of the cross bar and sneaked across the goal line for her first tally of the year.

New Haven also opened the scoring in the second half as coming down the middle, Garcia took a long feed from
Taylor Szyarto (Howell, N.J./Howell) and sent it past the keeper for her eighth goal of the season and a 2-0 lead. Southern responded late with a goal in the 81st minute, but the Chargers were able to hold off a final charge to claim the win.

Deandra Nash (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made six saves for the Chargers to help preserve the victory.

The Chargers return to the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 6 when they host Assumption in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 4:00 p.m. at Kayo Field.Â
