WEST HAVEN, Conn. –
Marisa Garcia (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) scored her Northeast-10 Conference leading ninth goal of the season, but the University of New Haven women's soccer team dropped an NE-10 match to the Assumption Greyhounds 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, Assumption is 7-3 with a 5-3 record in the NE-10. New Haven is now 7-3-1 with a 4-3-1 conference record.
Trailing 2-0 in the second half, the Chargers got on the board in the 68th minute when Garcia took a lead pass from
Anne White (West Nyack, N.Y./Pearl River) who received a touch pass from
Sierra Stein (Sherman, Conn./Immaculate). One-on-one against the goalie, Garcia was able to find the back of the net for the third consecutive game, slicing the lead to 2-1. The goal also extended her point-scoring streak to five contests. Despite late chances, it was the only goal they could muster in the comeback effort.
Assumption built its lead with a pair of goals off corner kicks as Kallie Villemaire and Joclyn Tomasello, were able to send home balls served in by Paige Radomski.
Deandra Nash (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made 11 saves in the match for New Haven.
New Haven returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1:00 p.m. when it travels to North Andover, Mass. to face Merrimack in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
