Impellizeri Leads Chargers for Second Straight Match as New Haven Falls to Dowling

OAKDALE, N.Y. – The University of New Haven volleyball team dropped a three-set (10-25, 15-25, -25) match on the road at Dowling in a non-conference battle on Thursday night. Leading the Chargers for the second-straight match was graduate student Micki Impellizeri (Seaford, N.Y./St. Anthony's) who finished with eight kills.

With the loss, New Haven falls to 9-9 overall, while Dowling improves to 14-4 in 2015. The Chargers will return to the friendly confines of Charger Gymnasium and Northeast-10 Conference action when they host Merrimack on Saturday. First serve in the league showdown is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Impellizeri's eight kills comes one match after setting a career-high with 11 in a win over Assumption. Against Dowling, she finished the night hitting .136 with five errors in 22 total attempts. Following Impellizeri in leading the Chargers offense was Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) who finished with five kills, while three other finished with three kills apiece; Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef), Kristen Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) and Nicole Morales (Moca, Puerto Rico/Carib Christian). Rios also led the Chargers with 16 assists.

Defensively, Lee led the Chargers with 10 digs, her 11th match of the season and third-straight with double figures on the defensive end. Rios followed her with seven digs while Kennelly and libero Devin Smith (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) each added six.
