WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's basketball team had three players score in double figures, but the Chargers fell to the Saint Rose Golden Knights 63-53 in a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division contest on Saturday afternoon.
With the result, both teams are 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) led New Haven with 11 points while
Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) and
India Dotson (Akron, Ohio/Frederick (Md.) / Monmouth University) each had 10.
Khayla Trowell (Temple Hills, Md./Elizabeth Seton Catholic) tallied a career-high nine points and
Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) grabbed a career best eight rebounds. Keyontae Williams netted a game-high 22 for the Golden Knights.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well in the first half, as both squads were under 30-percent for the stanza, with Saint Rose taking a 25-23 lead into the halftime. In the third period, the scoring pace picked up as Hebert scored five points in the frame.
Leading by four heading into the final period, the Golden Knights pushed to their largest lead of the night at 52-44 before the Chargers made their push as a 5-0 run, capped by a
Katia Oge (New City, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Academy) layup, sliced the lead to 52-49. That was as close as New Haven would get, however, as the Golden Knights sealed the game at the line.
The Chargers are in action next on Tuesday, Nov. 24 when they head to Garden City, N.Y. for a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division game at Adelphi at 5:30 p.m.
