SHIRLEY, N.Y. - The University of New Haven softball team tied a game and lost a game at Dowling Monday afternoon in Long Island. The Chargers lost the first game of the doubleheader 12-10 and then played to an even 6-6 draw through five innings in the nightcap before the game was called due to darkness.
The Chargers move to 3-6-1 overall with the two results, while the Golden Lions now stand at 5-4-1 overall.
Gabby DeLeo (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) recorded four RBI and a run on two hits in the first game, while
Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) went three 2/3 innnigs, while
Alyssa Monteverde (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) entered in relief and suffered the loss.
DeLeo also led the Chargers in the nightcap with three RBI and three runs scored off 2-of-2 at the plate. In the circle,
Victoria Cabral (New Britain, Conn./Miss Porter's School / Hofstra) tossed the complete five innings, while giving up just two earned runs and striking out one batter.
