WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven Department of Athletics recognized 142 student-athletes on Friday morning at its 2015 Scholar-Athlete Breakfast presented by Enterprise Holdings Foundation. More than 200 student-athletes, family members, faculty and staff were in attendance at Charger Gymnasium to honor the academic achievements of the student-athletes.
 
Remarks at the breakfast were delivered by Vice President for Enrollment Management Dr. James McCoy, Associate Vice President, Director of Athletics and Recreation Deborah Chin, Associate Director of Athletics Larry Earnesty, Professor Georgia Chavent, Professor Dr. Charles Vigue and senior student-athlete Ivy Watts (Waltham, Mass./Waltham). The theme of the remarks reflected the NCAA Division II attribute of balance demonstrated by student-athletes in the classroom and in their respective athletic venues.
 
Dr. Charles Vigue presented the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Awards at the end of the morning to Watts and JP DiTommaso (Farmington, Conn./Farmington). Watts owns a cumulative grade-point average of 3.97 and has achieved Dean's List status in seven semesters as a Psychology major. It's her second consecutive year being named the female recipient of the Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Award. DiTommaso holds a 4.0 grade-point average as a Business Management/Management of Sports Industries major.

Lindsey Conley (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury ), President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), presented the SAAC Faculty/Staff Mentor Awards to Dr. Melissa Whitson, Psychology professor and women's basketball faculty/staff liaison, and Felecia Edwards, the Director of the First Year Success Center. 

The baseball team was also presented with the Northeast-10 Conference Team Academic Excellence Award which it received following last season. This honor is given to the program with the highest grade-point average in each of the conference's 23 sports throughout the academic year. The team posted a grade-point average of 3.2, highest among NE-10 baseball teams.

At the University of New Haven, a Dean's List student must earn a semester grade-point average of 3.50 or higher. The 2015 Scholar-Athlete Awards Breakfast presented by Enterprise Rent-A-Car recognized those student-athletes who earned Dean's List status in the spring of 2014 and fall of 2014. Student-athletes were also honored as members of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society. Honor chords were given to student-athletes who earn a varsity letter in at least one sport while maintaining a 3.4 cumulative GPA throughout their junior and senior years.
