WORCESTER, Mass. -
Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) scored three goals and had five assists as the No. 7/8 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team defeated the Assumption Greyhounds 16-8 in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, New Haven is now 10-2 on the season and 7-2 in the NE-10. Assumption falls to 8-5 overall and is 4-5 in conference.
In addition to Campbell's performance,
Courtney Ackland (Perth, Western Australia/Churchlands) and
Ashley Travis (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette ) each scored three goals.
The Chargers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead less than seven minutes in on goals by Ackland, Travis and
Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) with Campbell assisting on the first two. From there the Greyhounds kept things close as they rallied to pull to 5-4 with 8:45 remaining in the first half. Undaunted, New Haven ripped off five straight goals before halftime, two of them by Travis to take a 10-4 lead into the break.
In the second half, after Assumption scored the first marker just more than nine minutes in, the Chargers went on another 5-0 run as Ackland, Maya Syzmanski,
Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and Campbell all scored in a 7:55 stretch to push the score to 15-5.
For the game, New Haven held a 20-6 advantage in draw controls.
The Chargers return to action next on Tuesday, April 14 at 4:00 p.m. when they host Merrimack at Kayo Field.Â
