Softball Falls in Doubleheader Action at Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of New Haven softball team dropped a pair of Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division games to the Le Moyne Dolphins on Saturday afternoon, falling in a 2-1 heartbreaker in game on before being upended 12-1 in five innings in the second game.

With the wins, Le Moyne is now 16-9 overall, 9-6 in the NE-10 and 8-5 in the Southwest Division. New Haven falls to 11-14-1, 8-7 in the conference and 6-7 in divisional play.

In game one, the Chargers broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning when Erika Williams (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) doubled to lead off the inning. Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) sacrificed her to third and Tori Schiebe (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) drove Williams home with a groundout.

The score remained 1-0 into the bottom of the seventh when Le Moyne loaded the bases with two outs before a pinch-single from Mackenzie Dreher scored two runs to give the Dolphins the win.

Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) was solid for New Haven in the circle, striking out 10 and allowing just three hits in 6.2 innings.

In game two, Le Moyne plated 12 runs in the first three innings en route to the victory. The Chargers plated their run in the second when Marissa Colby (Carlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill) singled, moved to second following a strike out. Colby advanced to third on a single by Gabby DeLeo (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) and came home on a throwing error by the shortstop.

The two teams will play a doubleheader again tomorrow at noon in Syracuse, N.Y.
