No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Tops No. 19 Bentley on Senior Day

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Kathryn Campbell (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) scored five goals and added an assist as the nationally ranked No. 8 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team held on for a 15-11 victory against No. 19 Bentley in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Senior Day at Kayo Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Chargers are now 12-2 on the season and are 9-2 in the NE-10. Bentley drops to 8-5 with a 7-4 conference mark.
In addition to Campbell's effort, Courtney Ackland (Perth, Western Australia/Churchlands) scored four times and had an assist while Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) netted two goals each.

New Haven got off to a good start, scoring the first four goals of the game on markers by Campbell, Belanger, Fisher and Ackland just more than 11 minutes into the contest. Bentley responded, going on a 4-2 run to slice the lead to 6-4 before Campbell delivered her second goal of the game with 3:11 to go in the first half, extending the Chargers lead to 7-4 at halftime.

In the second half, New Haven once again came out strong. Ackland and Campbell each scored in the first 11 minutes to push the lead to 9-4. After the Falcons made it 9-5, the Chargers went on the attack, ripping off a 6-0 run in a span of 6:17 with Ackland and Campbell netting two goals apiece, to build the lead to 15-5.

Bentley made a final push, scoring the last six goals of the match, but with the Falcons attacking, New Haven was able to force a turnover in the final minute to secure the win.

Prior to the game, the Chargers honored their five seniors as Campbell, Ashley Travis (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette ), Daina Catanese (Franklin Square, N.Y./H. Frank Carey), Samantha Clyne (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) and Brittany Ast (Glenwood, N.J./Vernon Township) were recognized for their efforts during the past four years.

Next up for the Chargers is a road game at No. 1 Adelphi on Wednesday, April 22 at 4:00 p.m. in Garden City, N.Y.
