GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team battled the Adelphi Panthers scoreless for more than two-thirds of the match, but the Panthers pulled away in the waning moments as the Chargers fell 2-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference contest Wednesday evening.

With the win, Adelphi is 2-1-1 overall with a 1-0-0 mark in the NE-10. New Haven drops to 3-2-0 overall and is 0-1-0 in conference play.

In a tight first half, the Chargers and Panthers went into the locker room scoreless.
Stephen Sasso (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) played a big role in keeping Adelphi off the scoreboard, making five saves. It marked the first occasion in three all-time meetings that the two teams went into the half tied.

The match remained scoreless into the 68th minute when the Panthers scored off a cross in the middle of the box. 12 minutes later, they netted the final marker of the game to cement the final score.

Sasso finished the match with nine saves.

New Haven is in action next at home on Friday afternoon when it takes on No. 10 Merrimack in a Northeast-10 tilt at Kayo Field. The match is slated for 3:30 p.m.
