WEST HAVEN, Conn.- The University of New Haven men's soccer team saw the nationally ranked No. 10 Merrimack Warriors score three times in the final 20 minutes of play as the Warriors upended the Chargers 5-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Friday afternoon.
With the win, Merrimack is now 6-0 with a 2-0 record in the NE-10. New Haven falls to 3-3 and is 0-2 in conference play.
The Chargers jumped on the board first in the 16th minute as off a free kick from 25 yards out of the top right corner of the box,
Aurochit Patnaik (Mumbai, India/St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.)) curled the ball just inside the far post for his first collegiate goal and a 1-0 lead.

Opening the second frame, New Haven came out on the attack, seeing a shot by Patnaik barely go wide. In the 55th minute, they had their best chance of the half as
Oscar Johannesson (Hässleholm, Sweden/Hässleholms Tekniska Skola) delivered a perfect cross to
Rob Poirier (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) who appeared to have the ball ticketed for the back of the net by the Merrimack keeper was able to dive to make the save at the last moment.
Still 2-1 into the 72nd minute, the Warriors scored twice less than a minute apart, the first on a penalty kick to salt the match away before a goal in the 83rd minute sealed the final score.
