GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The nationally ranked No. 25 New Haven women's soccer team got a goal from
Sierra Stein (Sherman, Conn./Immaculate) the 80th minute to level the match, but the Chargers suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Adelphi Panthers 2-1 in a Northeast-10 contest on Wednesday evening.
With the win, Adelphi improves to 3-2 overall with a 2-1 record in the NE-10. New Haven drops to 4-1 with a 1-1 mark in conference play.
Trailing 1-0 with just more than 10 minutes remaining in the game, Stein was able to collect the ball and race past the Adelphi back line before sending the ball over the right shoulder of the keeper, knotting the match at 1-1. For Stein, it was her second goal of the season.
The Panthers did not waver in their attack, however, scoring in the 84th minute to seal the match. Adelphi got on the board first in the 30th minute when Laura Gomez served a half volley into the net for a 1-0 Adelphi lead.
In net,
Deandra Nash (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made seven saves.
The Chargers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 when they take on American International in a Northeast-10 Conference tilt. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
