Women's Soccer Erases Two Goal Deficit to Draw Against Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sierra Stein (Sherman, Conn./Immaculate) scored a pair of goals for the University of New Haven women's soccer team and the Chargers rallied from a two goal second half deficit to forge a 3-3 draw with the Bentley Falcons in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Saturday afternoon.

With the draw, New Haven is 5-2-1, 2-2-1 in the NE-10. Bentley is 2-3-2 with an 0-3-1 conference record.

Trailing 1-0 early in the second half, the Chargers leveled the game as Shannon Enright (Ashford, Conn./E.O. Smith) delivered the ball to Sierra Stein (Sherman, Conn./Immaculate) just outside the top of the box where she chipped it past the keeper to tie the match at 1-1.

The Falcons responded, however, scoring eight minutes later and then again in the 65th minute to take a 3-1 lead. New Haven battled back again as Stein won the ball and fired a shot from a severe angle on the left side into the far post for her second goal of the match and fourth of the season.

Still down 3-2 with just more than a minute remaining in the match, the Chargers mounted one more attack as a shot by Marisa Garcia (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon) was saved, but Kelly Blank (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor / Farmingdale State College) picked up the rebound and tapped it into the open net for her first goal of the year, tying the game at 3-3 with 1:08 remaining.

In the 20 minutes of extra time, neither team was able to crack the scoreboard.

For the match, New Haven outshot Bentley 19-11with a 9-7 edge in shots on goal.

The Chargers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 for a Northeast-10 Conference match against Franklin Pierce beginning at 4:00 p.m.
