Women's Basketball Downs Franklin Pierce

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven women's basketball team used a complete team effort as the Chargers downed the Franklin Pierce Ravens 66-61 in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Wednesday evening.
 
With the win, New Haven is now 8-9 overall and 4-7 in conference. The Ravens are 9-7 with a 6-5 mark in the NE-10.
 
Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) led the Chargers with 20 points. Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) scored 17 to go along with seven rebounds and four assists. Katia Oge (New City, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Academy) led the squad with nine rebounds and Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) had seven points and eight boards.
 
For the game the Blue and Gold outrebounded the Ravens 42-31.
 
In an offensive-minded first quarter, New Haven held a 19-16 lead at the end of the period with five different players finding the scoring column. Hebert led the way with six points in the frame with Bradford and Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) netting four each. Bradford carried the load in the second stanza, scoring six points as the Chargers increased their lead to 34-28 at halftime.
 
In the third period, the Blue and Gold pushed to as much as a 12 point lead at 45-33 with 3:07 remaining. At that point, the Ravens made their move, going on a 14-4 run to end the third and open the fourth, slicing the advantage to 49-47. After the Chargers reestablished an eight point lead with 4:31 to go, Franklin Pierce used one more burst, this time a 6-0 run to cut the score to 60-58 on a Dyamond Gardner layup at the 1:42 mark.
 
On its next possession, New Haven worked the shot clock down into single digits, before Kerr drove the lane and kicked to Hebert for a left corner three-pointer, helping to seal the win.
 
The Chargers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 23 when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for an NE-10 matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
