Hebert Nets Career-High 24 Points as Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) scored a career-high 24 points as the University of New Haven women's basketball team outscored the Southern New Hampshire Penmen by 12 points in the fourth quarter to earn a 79-69 win in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Chargers are now 9-9 overall and moves to 5-7 in the NE-10. The Penmen fall to 10-8 with a 4-8 conference mark.

In addition to Hebert's career-high total, the Blue and Gold got 23 points from Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross). Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) notched her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. India Dotson (Akron, Ohio/Frederick (Md.) / Monmouth University) chipped in with nine points and six rebounds.

For the contest, New Haven forced 18 Southern New Hampshire turnovers, while committing just 11 itself.

Both teams shot better than 50 percent in the first period with the Chargers tallying six of the last seven points during the final 63 seconds to take a 22-17 lead. Kerr led the squad with nine points and three rebounds for the stanza while Bradford added seven points.

The second quarter was a battle of runs. Trailing 24-17, the Penmen scored the next 11 points to take a four-point lead. Undeterred, New Haven responded, netting 10 of 11 in the final 4:26 to take a 34-29 advantage into halftime.

The Blue and Gold started the third period well, matching its largest lead of the game to that juncture at 47-40 with 4:53 left in the quarter. From that point, Southern New Hampshire went on a 13-4 run to close the frame and take a 53-51 edge into the final stanza.

New Haven started the fourth period on an 8-3 run, taking a lead they would never relinquish at 59-56 on a Hebert layup. Following a Penmen basket, the Charger got a lift from the first career three-pointer from Sianna Van Dyke (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston). SNHU scored on the other end before the Blue and Gold took the momentum for good when Hebert hit a trey and was fouled. She converted the free throw to put New Haven up 66-60. The team would then hit all four of its free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

The Chargers return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 26 when they travel to Colchester, Vt. to face the St. Michael's Purple Knights in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
