WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The University of New Haven women's soccer team got a goal from Emily Morello (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) in the 73rd minute as the Chargers defeated the Southern Connecticut State University Owls 2-1 in a Northeast-10 Conference match in front of a capacity crowd at Kayo Field on Saturday night.Â

·        In addition to Morello's goal, Nicole Caruso (Portland, Conn./Portland) recorded her first career tally for the Chargers.Â
·        Allison Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) and Danielle Matassa (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown North) each picked up an assist in the contest.Â
·        Deandra Nash (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made seven saves for New Haven, several of them game-saving stops.Â
How it Happened
·        Midway through the 39th minute, Morgan delivered a ball to Caruso from the left side of the box. The junior collected the ball and sent her shot past the keeper for a 1-0 Chargers lead.Â
·        The Owls had a chance in the 64th minute when Meaghan Howard whistled a ball on a free kick that Nash was able to get a fingertip on and send over the crossbar.Â
·        After SCSU tied the match, the Chargers took the lead for good when Matassa lofted a ball into open space. Morello ran on to it, beating the keeper who had come off her line and then chipped the ball in from 25 yards out for the eventual game-winning goal.Â
By the Numbers
·        The crowd of 413 at the contest was the largest for New Haven in a home match since Oct. 14, 2014, which was also against Southern Connecticut.Â
·        Each team had three corner kicks in the match.Â
