WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team battled the Assumption Greyhounds through 90 scoreless minutes before a goal just more than three minutes into overtime lifted the Greyhounds to a 1-0 win in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Wednesday afternoon. With the setback, New Haven is 5-5-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the NE-10.

The first half saw Assumption hold a 14-6 advantage in total shots, but
Deandra Nash (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) was up to the challenge, turning aside all seven shots on goal she faced. The Chargers were able to withstand more pressure in the second half with Nash making eight stops. The 15 saves she made in the contest were a career high.

In the first overtime period, New Haven and Assumption played evenly for the first three minutes before Katie Villemaire was able to head the ball across the goal line from the six-yard box to end the contest.

The Chargers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when they host Merrimack in a Northeast-10 Conference match. Kickoff at Kayo Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
