Men's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team held an advantage in shots on goal, but an early tally by the American International Yellow Jackets allowed AIC to claim a 1-0 final in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Saturday night. With the setback, the Chargers are now 5-7-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the NE-10.

The Yellow Jackets netted the lone goal of the match just shy of two minutes in as Steven Hernandez touched home a cross from the right side. The Chargers responded, taking five of the next seven shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Entering the second half, New Haven had its best chance in the 65th minute when Mawasi Charles (Barataria, Trinidad/St. Anthony's College) took a feed from 30 yards out, but his header glanced off the crossbar.

For the match, AIC held a slight 14-12 edge in shots overall with the Chargers carrying a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.

New Haven returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 when it hosts Saint Anselm on a Northeast-10 Conference match. Kickoff from Kayo Field is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
