Four Chargers Score as Men's Soccer Downs Saint Anselm

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team exploded for four goals as the Chargers got back on the winning track with a 4-1 victory against the Saint Anselm Hawks in a Northeast-10 Conference match at Kayo Field on Wednesday afternoon. New Haven is now 6-7-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the NE-10.

KEY PLAYERS

·         Evans Kussi (Udine, Italy/Doherty Memorial), Nate Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme), Corey Kennedy (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) and Aurochit Patnaik (Mumbai, India/St. Benedict's Prep (N.J.)) each scored for the Chargers.

·         Pablo Perez (Medellin, Columbia/West Haven) had two assists and Peduzzi had one helper for the Blue and Gold.

·         Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) made six saves for New Haven.

HOW IT HAPPENED

·         Less than a minute after Saint Anselm scored at the 18:21 mark of the first half on a goal by Emmet O'Callaghan, the Chargers responded as Kussi took a feed from Perez, worked past a defender and rifled a ball with his left foot into the back of the net.

·         In the 27th minute Peduzzi headed in a Perez free kick to give the Blue and Gold a 2-1 lead.

·         New Haven scored twice in the span of a minute in the second half to put the match away. Peduzzi served a ball across the box that was collected and volleyed home by Kennedy late in the 73rd minute. Just 60 seconds later, Patnaik converted a penalty kick following a foul in the box.

BY THE NUMBERS

·         The six wins for the men's soccer team are the most since the 2012 season when the Chargers went 6-9-2.

·         All five of Peduzzi's goals this season have come in the month of October. He scored twice against Franklin Pierce and once each against Saint Thomas Aquinas, Saint Rose and Saint Anselm.

·         The two assists for Perez give him nine on the season, which leads the NE-10. It is the most goals for a New Haven player since 2002 when Omer Doron also had nine.
