DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven women's soccer team (5-9-1 overall) dropped its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Mercy Mavericks by a 5-0 final tally.
Mercy opened the scoring late in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the halftime intermission, before putting the match out of reach with four goals in the second half, all within the first 25 minutes of play.
As a team, New Haven combined for seven total shots, forcing Mercy keeper Ashley Price to make four saves. The Chargers split time between a pair of keepers with Kyra Wolonsavich (Beverly, Mass./Beverly) allowing the first half goal and making three saves, while Deandra Nash (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) conceded four goals, also making three saves. Overall, the two New Haven keepers faced a combined 13 shots with 11 of them recorded as on goal.
Leading the Chargers offensive attack was Danielle Widmann (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) who compiled three of the seven New Haven shots, with two of hers being recorded on goal. Sarah Bosco (Berlin, Conn./Berlin) and Megan Georges (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) also placed shots on target, with Georges following Widmann with two shots overall.
New Haven returns to action on Saturday with a second straight road game at Pace. Opening kick against the Setters is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Pace Stadium.
