Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Peduzzi Scores Twice as Men's Soccer Downs Franklin Pierce

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - Nate Peduzzi (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) scored his first two career goals and Stefano Lorusso (Auckland, New Zealand/Sacred Heart College) tied a career high with 11 saves as the University of New Haven men's soccer team defeated the Franklin Pierce Ravens 2-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference match on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Chargers are 5-3-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the NE-10.

Key Players

·         Peduzzi recorded the only two goals of the contest, coming in the 40th and 75 minutes.

·         Lorusso made 11 saves, eight of them in the second half including one on a penalty kick.

·         Pablo Perez (Medellin, Columbia/West Haven) and Rob Poirier (Old Lyme, Conn./Lyme-Old Lyme) each had an assist in the match.

How it Happened

·         After the first half hour of the match did not amount to many chances either way, New Haven broke through in the 40th minute when Perez served a ball in from the right side. Peduzzi deflected the ball with his heel past the keeper for a 1-0 lead.

·         In the 75th minute after an entry pass by the Ravens, Poirier cleared the ball into the middle of the field. Peduzzi headed it past the last defender and beat the goalkeeper, who had come out to challenge. He then dribbled the ball into the box and tapped it into the back of the net.

·         Franklin Pierce threatened late as it was awarded a penalty shot in the 84th minute. Lorusso was able to come up with a diving effort for the save to preserve the clean sheet.

By the Numbers

·         It is the third time this season that Lorusso has come up with 11 saves in a match. He also did it against Adelphi and Assumption.

·         The Blue and Gold has now eclipsed its win total from last season.
