WEST HAVEN, CONN. – The University of New Haven volleyball team (11-6, 6-1 NE-10) secured its ninth three-set sweep of the season, defeating Saint Michael's (25-17, 25-20, 25-14) on Saturday evening at Charger Gymnasium. Leading the Blue and Gold was freshman outside hitter Mallory Nowicki (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) who closed out the match with 13 kills, her third straight match in double figures.
HIGHLIGHTS
· Nowicki was one of three Chargers who finished in double figures, joined by Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) and Caroline Martins (Tres Pontas, Brazil) who chipped in 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Among the three leading hitters, Nowicki led the way with a .423 hitting average, finishing with two errors in 26 attempts.
· The Chargers best hitting came in the first and third sets. In the opening set, New Haven finished with 18 combined kills and four errors in 35 attempts for a .400 average, while also closing out the match with 18 kills and a .341 attack percentage in the third set.
· Leading New Haven in overall hitting percentage was middle Lexis Peterson (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor Central) who closed out the night with a .556 hitting average with five kills and no errors in nine attempts. Alex Bussey (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) (six kills) and Nicole Morales (Moca, Puerto Rico/Carib Christian) (five kills) also contributed on the offensive end.
· In addition to her 12 kills, Rios led New Haven with 23 assists, joined by Annika Hacker (Bayreuth, Germany/Littleton (Colo.)), who finished with 22 assists, in marshaling the Chargers offense.
· Defensively, the Chargers were led by freshman libero Charleigh Crews (Naples, Fla./Seacrest Country Day) who compiled 17 digs, the only player to finish in double figures. Also among the defensive leaders was Lindsey Kim (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook) (nine digs), Brianna Mirmina (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) (eight digs) and Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) (seven digs).

The Chargers will play their next two matches away from the West Haven campus, beginning with a visit to Garden City, N.Y. to meet the Adelphi Panthers on Tuesday, October 25. Opening serve against Adelphi is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
