WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) recorded her first double-double of the season, but the University of New Haven women's basketball team dropped its season opener to the Bloomfield College Bears 67-56 on Friday night.
HIGHLIGHTS
· 11 different players appeared in the game for New Haven with nine scoring and eight pulling in a rebound.
· Kerr led the Chargers with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. India Dotson (Akron, Ohio/Frederick (Md.) / Monmouth University) scored nine points with Sade King (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon / Hampton University), Katia Oge (New City, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Academy) and Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) netting seven each.
· New Haven outshot Bloomfield for the game 40.4 percent to 36.8 percent and outscored he Bears in the paint 32-26.
· Zhane Robinson led all scorers with 21 points, leading four Bloomfield players in double figures.
· Dotson got off to a good start for New Haven scoring the first seven Chargers' points of the game.
· Leading by four at halftime, Bloomfield extended out as far as a eight point lead midway through the third quarter before New Haven went on an 11-3 run during the next four minutes to tie the game on a King triple with 53 second left in the period.
· The Bears put the game away in the fourth with Robinson scoring 11 of her points down the stretch.
