New Haven Falls Late at Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA – The University of New Haven women's basketball team had three players in double figure scoring and two with 10 or more rebounds, but the Chargers fell to the Chestnut Hill Griffins in a non-conference matchup 82-77 on Sunday afternoon. New Haven is now 0-2 on the season.

Highlights:

  •          Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) recorded her second straight double-double to begin the season behind 19 points and 13 rebounds.
  •          Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) had a career-best 13 points for the Chargers.
  •          India Dotson (Akron, Ohio/Frederick (Md.) / Monmouth University) had 10 points and eight rebounds.
  •          Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) and Sade King (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon / Hampton University) each had nine points. It was a career-high for Wormack and tied a personal best for King. Wormack also had a career-high 10 rebounds.
  •          New Haven outrebounded Chestnut Hill 54-39 for the game, but committed 21 turnovers to 14 for the Griffins.
  •          Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) led the Chargers in the opening period with nine points and four rebounds.
  •          Sade King (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon / Hampton University) scored seven points and Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) had six in the opening frame.
  •          New Haven made all nine of its free throws in the period, the last two by Cubbage to give the Chargers a 25-18 lead.
  •          Kerr had four more points and five rebounds in the second to end the half with 13 points and nine boards.
  •          The Chargers built the lead to as many as 34-24 with 8:09 remaining in the period.
  •          Chestnut Hill came back and tied the game at 34-34 during the next three minutes.
  •          The Blue and Gold ended the half on a 9-4 run to take a 45-38 lead into halftime.
  •          Chestnut Hill chipped away at the lead, but New Haven was able to maintain a 67-65 lead heading into the final stanza.
  •          The Chargers scored the first two points of the fourth period on a Wormack layup to take a 69-65 lead, but the Griffins went on a 12-1 run to take a 77-70 lead with 2:42 remaining.

New Haven opens conference play on Wednesday, Nov. 16 when it hosts Le Moyne at Charger Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
