Cubbage Drops Career-High 27 Points Against AIC

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Allieyah Cubbage (North Plainfield, N.J./Roselle Catholic) scored a career-high 27 points and the University of New Haven women's basketball team held the American International Yellow Jackets to their third lowest point total of the season, but the Chargers were upended 65-59 in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon. New Haven is now 1-8 overall and 1-5 in the NE10.

HIGHLIGHTS

  •          Cubbage's 27 points led New Haven. It was her first game over 20 points and fourth game this season scoring in double figures.
  •          Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) had nine points and 12 rebounds.
  •          Sianna Van Dyke (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) led the Blue and Gold with three assists while Katia Oge (New City, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Academy) had eight rebounds.
  •          The Chargers held a 41-20 advantage in rebounding.
  •          New Haven had a program high in an NE10 game, hitting 90.9 percent (20-for-22) at the free throw line (minimum 20 attempts).
  •          The game featured six ties and nine lead changes.  

FIRST PERIOD NOTES:

  •          The Chargers hit 46.7 percent from the floor (7-for-15) on their way to a 19-18 lead at the end of the quarter.
  •          Cubbage scored five points in the frame while Oge, Kerr and Micah Wormack (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) each scored four.
  •          New Haven held a 13-2 advantage on the glass for the period.
  •          Oge had one block in the quarter, the 17th consecutive game she has rejected a shot. It was also the 50th block of her career.

 SECOND PERIOD NOTES:

  •          Cubbage netted five more points to get into double figures.
  •          The Blue and Gold continued to outrebound the Yellow Jackets, pulling in five more boards than AIC in the period.
  •          Dana Watts had 11 points in the frame to help American International take a late lead.

 THIRD PERIOD NOTES:

  •          Kerr had three rebounds in the frame, giving her 10 for the game, her sixth contest this season with double figures on the glass.
  •          After the Yellow Jackets extended to their largest lead at 47-38, the Chargers went on a 5-0 run thanks to a pair of Quana Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Harry S. Truman) free throws and an old-fashioned three-point play by Kerr, pulling the game back to 47-43 with 2:23 left in the period. 

FOURTH PERIOD NOTES:

  •          Cubbage scored 15 points in the quarter. She netted her final three points on a halfcourt shot as time expired.
  •          The Blue and Gold went 4-for-6 from the field including 2-for-2 from three-point range in the period. 

UP NEXT:
The Chargers play their final game before an extended break when they travel to Wilmington, Del. on Monday, Dec. 12 for a non-conference game against the Goldey-Beacom Lightning. Tipoff from the Joseph West Jones Center is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
