MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –
Taylor Luzzi (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) hit a solo home run to break at 2-2 tie as the University of New Haven softball team won its second game of the day in dramatic fashion, downing the Shippensburg Raiders 5-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Tied 2-2 entering the seventh, Luzzi worked a 2-1 count before she took an inside fastball over the leftfield wall for her first career home run, putting the Chargers up 3-2. Not done in the frame, two batters later
Marissa Colby (Carlton, Mass./Shepherd Hill) walked.
Madison Derosia (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) came in to pinch-run and moved to second on a single by
Julie Devlin (Baldwin, N.Y./Northwood School).
Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) followed with an RBI single of her own, scoring Derosia and moving Devlin to third. A wild pitch followed, allowing Devlin to score, making it 5-3.

The Chargers got on the board in the second inning as with
Tori Schiebe (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) on second, a ground ball from Colby went through the legs of the shortstop, allowing the runner to score for a 1-0 New Haven lead. In the third, Palase singled with one out and stole second. She moved to third on a groundout before coming in to score on a single by
Kristine Liptack (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull), making it 2-0.

The game stayed at that score into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Raiders tied the game on a two-run home run by Bianca Giovenco.

Victoria Cabral (New Britain, Conn./Miss Porter's School / Hofstra) (3-0) earned the win in relief, tossing the final two innings of scoreless ball.

The Chargers wrap play at the Snowbird Freezeout with two games on Sunday, Feb. 21 taking on Molloy at 10:00 a.m. before facing West Chester at noon.Â
