MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of New Haven softball team pounded out a season-high 13 hits as the Chargers downed the Molloy Lions 9-2 in the early game of the day at the Snowbird Freezeout.

The Chargers wasted no time in getting on the board early as
Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) tripled on the first pitch of the game.
Sierra Whitlock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) followed with a single to leftfield, making it 1-0. Two more runs came across in the second as with one out
Gabby DeLeo (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) walked and promptly stone both second and third. On the throw to try to catch her at third, the ball went into leftfield, allowing her to score. Palase followed with a single and stole second. Whitlock followed with her second RBI single of the day, plating Palase for a 3-0 New Haven lead.

After the Lions got back into the game with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the inning, the Blue and Gold got a run back in the third when
Taylor Luzzi (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) doubled home
Madison Derosia (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) who came in to pinch-run for
Kristine Liptack (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) following a walk. In the fourth, Palase led off with a single and moved to second on a Whitlock sac bunt. Liptack came up and singled home Palase for a 5-2 New Haven lead.

The Chargers salted the game away in the sixth as after loading the bases, RBI singles from
Tori Schiebe (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) and Colby coupled with a Molloy error plated three runs, pushing the Blue and Gold advantage to 8-2. They scored a final run in the ninth inning when
Jolie Morrell (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) delivered her first career hit, an RBI single to score Luzzi, cementing the final score.

Victoria Cabral (New Britain, Conn./Miss Porter's School / Hofstra) (4-0) picked up the win, authoring five shutout innings of relief. She surrendered just two hits, striking out six.
