Women's Hoops Clinches Postseason Berth With 80-41 Win Over Pace

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – New Haven took an early lead over the Pace University Setters and never looked back as junior India Dotson (Akron, Ohio/Frederick (Md.) / Monmouth University) scored a career high 22 points, smashing her previous career high of 13, to help New Haven earn an 80-41 victory Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Chargers clinch a Northeast-10 postseason berth.

Dotson led New Haven (13-12 overall, 9-10 NE-10), while two other Chargers also reached double figure point totals. Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) netted 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) concluded with 15 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Katia Oge (New City, N.Y./Immaculate Heart Academy) added 7 points off the bench for New Haven, and Sianna Van Dyke (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) also tacked on a season-high five points.

One huge key for the Chargers Saturday was their success from the free-throw line. Out of 29 free throw attempts, New Haven bucketed 24 for an 82.8 free-throw percentage.

The Blue and Gold built a 13-point lead at the halftime break and would continue to roll in the second half, never letting Pace come within 15 points of the lead. An 11-0 run in the third quarter made by Dotson, Hebert, and Bradford helped propel New Haven toward victory.

New Haven's defense was also strong in the win, holding the Setters to only six points in the second quarter and eight points in the third. The defense held Pace to a 29.3 shooting percentage and also grabbed 32 boards, as Hebert pulled down nine total rebounds, and Bradford followed with eight.

The Chargers return to action on Tuesday on Senior Day for a big matchup against Le Moyne College. The NE-10 contest beginning at 5:30 p.m. is the final regular season home game for the Chargers.
