Men's Basketball Places Five Players in Double Figures in Win at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven men's basketball team placed five players in double figure scoring as the Chargers picked up a 71-62 victory against the Saint Rose Golden Knights in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

Win the win, New Haven is 7-15 with a 4-12 mark in the NE-10. Saint Rose falls to 10-12 with an 8-8 conference record.

Samir McDaniels (Roxbury, Mass./New Mission) led the Chargers with a career-high 21 points. Michael Bourke (South Orange, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) added 17. Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) netted 13 points with Jemal Mosley (Spring Valley, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep / Putnam Science Academy) and Joshua Guddemi (Nottingham, England/Derby) scoring 10 each. Guddemi also pulled in a team high seven rebounds. It is the second time this season the team has placed five players with 10 or more points, matching the effort against Southern Connecticut on Dec. 2.

Both teams shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, heading into the break tied at 34-34. Late in the period, it looked like Saint Rose might begin to pull away, taking a 28-21 lead on a Jack Jones layup at the 3:58 mark, but the Chargers responded, hitting their final five shots of the half, taking a 34-32 lead on a McDaniels layup with 20 seconds remaining in the stanza.

Early in the second half, New Haven started to pull away, going up 45-38 on a Tommy Hunt (Smithfield, R.I./St. Andrew's) three at the 16:29 mark. The Golden Knights responded, reeling off seven straight points to knot the game at 45-45. The Chargers regained control and methodically pushed to their largest lead of the game at 63-53 with 3:10 to go. After a late Saint Rose challenge, the Blue and Gold were able to seal the game, hitting four free throws in the final 1:27.

The Chargers now have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 when they host Adelphi at 1:30 p.m.
