Women's Basketball Claims Thrilling Win at Saint Rose

ALBANY, N.Y. – The University of New Haven women's basketball team placed four players in double figures as the Chargers got back on the winning track with a thrilling 64-61 win at Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

Win the win, New Haven is now 11-11 overall and is 7-9 in the NE-10. The Golden Knights fall to 14-9 and are 8-8 in conference play.

Briana Bradford (Waterbury, Conn./Holy Cross) led the Blue and Gold with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. India Dotson (Akron, Ohio/Frederick (Md.) / Monmouth University) tied her career-high with 13 points and led the team with eight rebounds. Alexandria Kerr (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) tallied 13 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the floor while Lauren Hebert (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) added 12 points. Khayla Trowell (Temple Hills, Md./Elizabeth Seton Catholic) tied her career-high with six rebounds.

Leading 27-26 entering the second half, the Chargers pushed the lead to 36-34 lead on a Bradford layup midway through the third quarter. At that point, the Golden Knights went on a 12-4 run during the next three minutes to take a 48-40 lead with 1:58 remaining in the frame. The Blue and Gold responded, getting back-to-back threes by Bradford and Hebert to close the third period down by just two points.

A very tight fourth quarter ensued with neither team holding more than a four-point lead. Down 59-56 with 4:21 remaining in the game, New Haven went on a final run, scoring eight of the final 10 points. Kerr got things started with a layup to make it 59-58. After a defensive stop, Bradford hit her third trey of the night and the 150th of her career to put the Chargers up 61-59. Following a pair of Saint Rose free throws that tied the game, Kerr delivered again, scoring on a driving layup to give the Blue and Gold a lead they would not relinquish.

Neither team shot particularly well in the first period as Saint Rose took a 15-10 lead at the end of the frame. In the second, New Haven methodically scored nine of the first 10 points, eventually taking its one point halftime lead.

The Chargers now have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 when they host Adelphi in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at 3:30 p.m.
