NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The nationally ranked No. 10 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team won its second consecutive Northeast-10 Conference game, downing the Southern Connecticut State Owls 14-5 on Monday night. With the win, the Chargers are 4-2 overall with a 2-0 mark in the NE-10. Southern Connecticut is 2-3 and has a 1-1 conference record.
Key Players·           Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) tied a career-high with four goals and added an assist for a career-high five points. She most recently scored four times on March 4, 2015 against    Dowling.
·           Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) had her second consecutive at trick, scoring three goals and adding two assists.
·           Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) tallied four points on two goals and two assists.
·           Devon Previte (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) recorded the second multi-goal game of her career, finding the back of the net twice. She also scored two goals against the Owls on March 26, 2013.
·           Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn./Branford) had a season-high three assists.
·           Marissa McDermott (Longmeadow, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) made six saves, her second highest total of the season.
How it Happened·           After Southern Connecticut opened the scoring less than a minute into the game, the Chargers scored three goals in a row.
·           Leading 3-2, the Blue and Gold ripped off five straight goals to close the opening frame and take an 8-2 lead at halftime.
·           New Haven held the Owls without a goal for nearly 28 minutes from the 18:52 mark of the first half until there was 20:42 left in the second period.
·           The Chargers saw the lead cut to 10-5 with 8:25 left in the second half, but scored four consecutive goals, one each by Previte, Mazliah, Szymanski and
Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) to help seal the victory.
Turning PointLeading 3-2 with just under 12 minutes left in the first half, New Haven scored five goals in a row to take an 8-2 lead into halftime. The Blue and Gold never led by less than five goals the remainder of the contest.
By the Numbers·           The Chargers outshot the Owls 17-7 in the first half and ended the game with a 34-16 advantage.
·           New Haven did a nice job of getting the ball into the attacking zone, finding success on 15-17 clear attempts including an impressive 9-for-9 mark in the first half.
·           The Blue and Gold held a 13-8 edge in draw controls led by six from Belanger and four by Fisher.
What's NextThe Chargers return to action on Friday, March 25 when they travel to Merrimack for a Northeast-10 Conference game in North Andover, Mass. Opening draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
