Fisher Scores Five Times as No. 10 Women's Lacrosse Downs Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- The nationally ranked No. 10 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team held Merrimack scoreless during the final 17 minutes of play as the Chargers defeated the Warriors 15-5 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Friday night. With the win, New Haven is 5-2 and 3-0 in the NE-10 while Merrimack is now 3-4 with an 0-3 mark in conference play.
 
Key Players:
·         Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) scored five goals to lead the Chargers, tying her career-high. She also found the back of the net five times against LIU Post on April 24, 2014.
·         Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) tied a career-best with five points on two goals and three assists.
·         Devon Previte (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) had her second consecutive multi-goal game to go along with two assists for a career-high four points.
·         Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn./Branford) scored three goals for her second hat trick in the last three games and third overall for the season.
·         Alexa Carbone (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) made her collegiate debut and saved the only two shots she faced. 

How it Happened:
·         The Chargers opened a 3-0 lead just before the midway point of the first half on a goal by O'Brien and two from Fisher.
·         New Haven held Merrimack off the scoreboard for more than 20 minutes to open the game, taking a 6-2 lead into halftime.
·         After the Warriors sliced the lead to 9-5 with 18 minutes to go in the second half, the Chargers scored the final six goals of the contest. 

Turning Point:
A Merrimack goal from Hunter McCarthy pulled the Warriors within four goals at 9-5 with 17:48 remaining in the game. New Haven responded with two scores from Fisher sandwiched around a tally by Mazliah in a span of 2:24, the last coming at the 14:43 mark to push the lead to 12-5. Merrimack would not score for the remainder of the game.
 
By the Numbers:
·         The Chargers had their best game for free position goals to date in 2016, scoring on 7-of-13 attempts.
·         New Haven led in several key categories including holding the advantage in shots (36-15), draw controls (14-8), ground balls (28-22) and caused turnovers (8-5).
·         The Blue and Gold held its second consecutive opponent to just five goals. 

Up Next:
The Chargers return to Kayo Field on Wednesday, March 30 to take on the Stonehill Skyhawks in a Northeast-10 Conference tilt. Opening draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
