WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven lacrosse team posted its first shutout since April 3, 2003 with a 10-0 blanking of the Stonehill Skyhawks on Wednesday afternoon. Leading the Chargers (6-2, 4-0 NE-10) was senior Alyssa Gianotti (Monkton, Md./Hereford) who stopped 11 shots in goal for her first career shutout.

Gianotti faced a total of 14 shots from the Skyhawks, with her offense outshooting the opponent 23-14. Leading the way in the scoring column was seniors Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) who each tallied five points on two goals and three assists apiece. The five points for Fisher ties her career-high for the second straight game, while Szymanski collected five points for the third time this season.

At one points, Fisher had played a part in all of the Chargers goals, scoring twice and assisting two other times on New Haven first four goals of the game. Szymanski broke an early stalemate with 13:56 remaining in the first half when she connected with Fisher for the games first tally. Fisher would then find Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn./Branford) for the second goal of the day just over two minutes later.

Fisher would then score the final two goals of the opening half with the first coming on a free position attempts with 8:07 remaining before the break and the second six minutes later off a feed from Alicia Busco (Agawam, Mass./Agawam). At the intermission, the Chargers held a 10-6 advantage in overall shots with Gianotti stopping five first half attempts by the Skyhawks.

Coming out of the break, the Chargers would open up the second half with their first draw control of the day, which eventually led to a goal five minutes into the action when O'Brien netted her second of the day thanks to a pass from Szymanski.

The next two New Haven goals came on man-up opportunities as the Blue and Gold finished the day 2-for-4 in extra man chances. Szymanski would net the first extra-man goal with just over 20 minutes remaining in the contest, while Devon Previte (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) got on the board with 13 minutes remaining off a feed from Jessica Mazliah (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North).

Busco, who early assisted on a goal, tallied the next two markers for the Chargers scoring the first 82 seconds after Previte thanks to a pass form Szymanski. Her next score came with just shy of eight minutes remaining in regulation when she connected with Fisher.

The final goal of the day came with eight second remaining as O'Brien capped off a three-goal afternoon with her 17th goal of the season as Szymanski provided her third assist of the afternoon to tally her fifth point.
