LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The University of New Haven softball team got a pair of complete game performances in the circle from
Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) and
Victoria Cabral (New Britain, Conn./Miss Porter's School / Hofstra) as the Chargers swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Georgian Court Lions on Friday afternoon, winning 6-0 in the opener and 6-3 in the second game. With the pair of wins, New Haven is now 19-9 on the season.

Key Players:
--King threw her third shutout of the season in the opener. She allowed just two hits and struck out a career-high 14 batters.

Victoria Cabral (New Britain, Conn./Miss Porter's School / Hofstra) allowed four hits and fanned nine in the second game in picking up her 13th win of the season.
--
Sierra Cardenales (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue Medford) had four hits combined in the two games and drove in three runs.
--
Julie Devlin (Baldwin, N.Y./Northwood School) had three hits in the twinbill, driving in a run and scoring twice.
--
Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville),
Heather Ferranti (Orange, Conn./Amity) and
Sierra Whitlock (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) each had two hits in the second game.

How it Happened (Game One):
--Scoreless into the fourth, the Chargers plated a pair of runs in the top half of the inning on RBI singles by Palase and Colby to score Devlin who had reached on an error and Whitlock who had walked.
--In the fifth, New Haven added three more runs, two of them coming on a
Gabby DeLeo (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert Catholic) single.
--The Blue and Gold plated the final tally of the game on a Cardenales double to score
Kristine Liptack (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) who reached on an error with one out.

Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) allowed just two hits in the game and just one after the first inning.
How it Happened (Game Two):
--New Haven scored a run in the top of the first when
Jen Palase (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) scored on an error with two outs.
--The Lions tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a RBI double.
--The Chargers plated single runs in the second and third to take a 3-1 lead.
--Georgian Court knotted the score in the bottom of the third, scoring two unearned runs.
--The Blue and Gold took the lead for good in the fourth on a two-run single by Cardenales, scoring Whitlock and Palase who opened the frame with singles of their own.

Turning Point (Game One):
The Chargers scored a pair of fourth inning runs and essentially put the game away at that point. King did the rest in one of the finest performances of her career.

Turning Point (Game Two):
After Georgian Court tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, New Haven rallied to score twice in the fourth. Cabral did not allow a hit the rest of the way as the Chargers finished the sweep.
