No. 10 Women's Lacrosse Returns to Winning Ways at Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. – The No. 10 New Haven women's lacrosse team broke open a close game, scoring six of the first eight goals in the second half as the Chargers downed the Saint Michael's Purple Knights 13-7 in a Northeast-10 Conference game on Saturday morning. With the win, New Haven is 9-4 overall with a 7-2 record in the NE-10.
 
Key Players:
--Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) recorded six points in the game, scoring four goals and assisting on two others.
--Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) recorded a hat trick with three goals in the contest.
--Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn./Branford) scored two goals and added two assists.
--Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) had two goals, won five draw controls and caused two turnovers.
--Alyssa Gianotti (Monkton, Md./Hereford) made nine saves.
 
How it Happened:
--Neither team held more than a two goal advantage in the opening frame as the Chargers took a 5-3 lead into halftime.
--After the Purple Knights scored the first goal of the second stanza to cut the lead to 5-4, New Haven tallied three in a row as O'Brien, Fisher and Szymanski all found the back of the net to extend the advantage to 8-4.
--A Saint Michael's goal two minutes later cut the lead to three, but a trio of goals in a span of 3:02 put New Haven up 11-5.

 
Turning Point:
After the lead was cut to 5-4 less than a minute into the second half, the Blue and Gold scored six of the next seven goals to take a commanding 11-5 lead.
 
By the Numbers:
--The Chargers held a 34-24 advantage in shots including 28-16 in shots on goal.
--New Haven led in draw controls 13-9.
--The Blue and Gold forced 23 turnovers in the game.
