WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven softball team jumped out with five runs in the first inning of game two on their way to splitting a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with the Franklin Pierce Ravens on Wednesday afternoon. The Chargers won game two 9-0 in five innings after dropping the opener 2-0. New Haven is now 22-12 on the season.

Taylor Luzzi (Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay) had four hits combined in the two games and scored a pair of runs.

Sierra Cardenales (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue Medford),
Heather Ferranti (Orange, Conn./Amity) and
Tori Schiebe (Monroe, Conn./Masuk) each went 2-for-3 in the second game. Cardenales and Ferranti each had two RBI while Schiebe drove in three runs.

Victoria Cabral (New Britain, Conn./Miss Porter's School / Hofstra) picked up her NE-10 leading 15th win of the season in game two, allowing four hits and striking out six in the five-inning complete game.

Nicole King (Front Royal, Va./Warren County) allowed one earned run and had her sixth double digit strikeout game of the season in the tough luck game one setback.

How it Happened (Game One):
--New Haven had all three of its hits in the first two innings.
--Franklin Pierce scored an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning and added an insurance tally in the seventh.
--King had at least one strikeout in each of the first six innings.
How it Happened (Game Two):
--The Chargers jumped on top with five first inning runs. Keying the frame was a two-run double from Ferranti and a throwing error by the Ravens shortstop that allowed the final two runs of the inning to score.
--Cabral worked out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the second.
--New Haven put the game away with four runs in the fourth that included a two-run single from Cardenales and a double from Schiebe that brought home a pair.

New Haven travels to Saint Rose for a three-game weekend series to close out the regular season. The Chargers and Golden Knights are scheduled to play two games on Friday, April 22 beginning at 3:00 p.m. before a single game Saturday at noon.Â
