Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

No. 10 Women's Lacrosse Wins Sixth Straight

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The nationally ranked No. 10 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team built a 6-1 halftime lead en route to a 9-6 Northeast-10 Conference victory against the American International Yellow Jackets on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Chargers are now 8-2 including a 6-0 mark in the NE-10.
 
Key Players:
·         Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) led New Haven with three goals, her third hat trick of the season.
·         Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) each scored two goals and added an assist. Fisher also had five caused turnovers, two ground balls and won two draw controls.
·         Devon Previte (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) found the back of the net twice for the third time in the last five games.
·         Alyssa Gianotti (Monkton, Md./Hereford) made six saves in recording her third straight win. 

How it Happened:
·         Tied 1-1 slightly less than 11 minutes in, the Chargers scored three goals in the next four minutes to open a 4-1 lead. Previte netting the first and last goals in the stretch, the first one in a player-down situation.
·         After the Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 7-4 at the 20:00 minute mark of the second half, Fisher and Szymanski each scored in the next 2:21, reestablishing a five goal advantage midway through the frame.
·         The Chargers withstood a late flurry by AIC with Gianotti making a final save on a free position shot with 2:30 remaining to seal the win. 

Turning Point:
Down a player due to a penalty, Previte scored to give New Haven a 2-1 lead with 19:03 left in the first half. The Blue and Gold tallied the next four goals, taking a 6-1 lead into the half.
 
By the Numbers:
·         The Chargers held their fifth consecutive opponent to six goals or less.
·         New Haven caused 12 AIC turnovers and held a 19-14 edge in ground balls.
·         The Blue and Gold won despite gaining only two free position attempts for the game.

The Chargers travel to Syracuse, N.Y. for a Northeast-10 Conference showdown with No. 2 Le Moyne on Saturday, April 9 at 12:00 p.m.
