WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The nationally ranked No. 12 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team advanced in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship with a 12-9 victory against the No. 20  Southern New Hampshire Penmen in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday night. With the win, the Chargers are now 13-5 overall.
KEY PLAYERS
·          Maya Szymanski (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and Alicia Busco (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) each recorded three goals for New Haven.
·          Nicole Belanger (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon), Corinne Fisher (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and Caitlin O'Brien (Branford, Conn./Branford) each had two goals and an assist.
·          Belanger had six draw controls and Fisher won four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
·          After neither team scored in the first nine minutes, the Blue and Gold opened a 6-1 lead on the strength of two goals each from O'Brien and Belanger and one apiece from Szymanski and Busco at the 6:18 mark.
·          Trailing 6-2, the Penmen scored four of the next five goals to pull to 7-6 less than seven minutes into the second half.
·          Holding an 8-7 lead near the midway mark of the frame, the Chargers ripped off the next four goals in a row, two of them by Fisher and capped by Busco's third of the night to open a 12-7 lead.
BY THE NUMBERS
·          New Haven held a 13-10 edge in draw controls and a 22-16 advantage in ground balls.
·          The Blue and Gold was successful on 17 of 18 clear attempts.
