WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven men's soccer team battled No. 20 Adelphi in its Northeast-10 Conference opener on Tuesday afternoon, falling 4-0 at Kayo Field. With the setback, the Chargers are 3-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the NE-10.

The Panthers delivered their opening goals of the match in the first 12 minutes, coming on a penalty kick and a redirect into the net. New Haven was able to play level with Adelphi for the remainder of the half to keep the score at 2-0 heading into halftime. The Panthers added two more goals in the opening 13 minutes of the second half to create the final margin.

New Haven's best opportunity came in the 87th minute when
Ben Lamb (Keighley, England/Oakbank) rocketed a free kick from 30 yards out that just caught the fingertips of the leaping goalkeeper, nudging it above the crossbar. On the ensuing corner kick,
Corey Kennedy (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) headed a ball off the
Pablo Perez (Medellin, Columbia/West Haven) serve that also required a good save.

The Chargers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17 when they travel to Merrimack for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Opening kickoff in North Andover, Mass. is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
