Kennelly's 10 Kills Leads Chargers to Straight Set Win at Assumption

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The University of New Haven volleyball team (4-3, 1-0 NE-10) opened its Northeast-10 Conference schedule with a straight-set (25-20, 26-24, 25-14) victory on the road at Assumption on Saturday afternoon. Leading the Chargers was senior outside hitter Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) who finished with 10 kills and a .280 attack percentage.

HIGHLIGHTS

·         Senior outside hitter Meghan Kennelly (Detroit, Mich./Eisenhower) was the only player on the day to finish with double digit kills, collecting 10 total, her third match of the season with 10 or more. She would close out the day with three errors in 25 total attempts for a team-high .280 attacking percentage.

·         Joining Kennelly in leading the offense was sophomore Kristine Rios (Miami, Fla./Coral Reef) and sophomore Nicole Morales (Moca, Puerto Rico/Carib Christian) who finished with nine and eight kills respectively.

·         Senior Annika Hacker (Bayreuth, Germany/Littleton (Colo.)) led UNH with 19 assists, while Rios joined her with 12. Hacker also led the Chargers with five service aces, tying her career-high set as a freshman and sophomore.

·         Defensively, the Chargers were led by sophomore libero Lindsey Kim (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook) who collected 22 digs, while Kennelly closed out the double double with 18 defensive stops.

·         As a team, New Haven combined for eight service aces with Brianna Mirmina (Bethany, Conn./Amity Regional) (2) and Kim (1) adding to Hacker's team high.

·         The Blue and Gold also combined for six total blocks with Alex Bussey (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) and Fernanda Da silva each leading the team with three apiece.

UP NEXT
The Chargers return to Charger Gymnasium for back-to-back home matches with a non-conference tilt against LIU Post beginning the stretch. First serve against the Pioneers is slated for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22.
